Kayak load calculator

Start typing a kayak make or model. We fill in the maker's maximum capacity, length and width from its spec page and check your load against the common 70% guideline.

Find kayaks that fit me

Real models whose load stays within 70% of the maker's maximum, from 242 models with a maker list price. Results link to each maker's product page.

Features listed by the maker

Prices: list price from each maker's own site as of 2026-10-26; retail prices vary. Capacity, length, width and weight are from each maker's spec page. Models without a published list price are in the calculator but not the finder. Amazon links are affiliate links, labeled where they appear. Inflatable models are included where the maker publishes capacity, length, width and weight. Some brands (Old Town, Ocean Kayak, Lifetime, Intex, Sea Eagle, Hobie) aren't listed yet because we couldn't read their makers' spec pages.

This is a guideline, not a safety rating. Source for the 70% rule of thumb: Brooklyn Kayak Company, "Clarifying kayak weight capacity"; REI's kayak buying guide also says to count you, your gear and anything you carry. Coast Guard capacity plates don't apply to canoes and kayaks, so use the maker's number.
